A Wikipedia card game
for the curious.

Wiki Battle is a free Wikipedia card game that runs in your browser. Each of its 180 cards is a real English Wikipedia article, from Ada Lovelace to Saturn, and its battle stats come from how much that article is read, cited and written. Open packs, collect across six themes, trade with other collectors and take three cards into tactical 1v1 duels.

How the Wikipedia card game works

Every session of the Wikipedia card game follows a simple loop: open a pack, read what you found, then put your best discoveries to work. A pack holds 5 different cards. The first four slots follow the standard rarity table, and the fifth is a featured slot that is always Rare or better. Cards flip from the lowest tier to the highest, so the final reveal is the one worth waiting for.

New collectors start with 3 packs, which means 15 cards and more than enough for a first three-card battle deck. After that, a free pack arrives every 12 hours and up to 2 can be stored, so checking in morning and evening wastes nothing. The daily quiz pays 40 coins plus 10 for two or more correct answers, battles pay up to 100 a day, and 500 earned coins exchange for one extra pack.

Duplicates are never dead weight. Five copies of one rarity below Legendary always fuse into a card of the next tier, preferring cards you do not own yet, or you can spend 5 Rare duplicates to craft the exact Rare you are still hunting.

From Wikipedia article to playing card

Card stats are not invented by a designer. For edition wiki-2026-10-06-v1, every article was measured over 90 days, from July 9, 2026 to October 6, 2026, and three numbers were turned into game values with capped logarithmic formulas:

  • ATK grows with average daily page views; the cap stops famous pages from winning every exchange.
  • DEF blends deduplicated citations with quality markers, so a well-sourced Featured article becomes a sturdy wall.
  • HP follows prose length, not tables, reference lists or captions.

GeirangerfjordNature · Common115124521,150 / 460 / 3,160

The spread in the Wikipedia card game is much narrower than the spread on Wikipedia itself. Cleopatra draws roughly 156 times as many daily readers as Geirangerfjord, yet its attack is only 32% higher. A well-chosen deck of lesser-known articles can still beat a hand of household names. Each card’s data panel shows the raw measurements, article revision and image credits, and stats stay frozen until a reviewed update is released.

Six themes and six rarities

The 180 cards are divided into 6 themes of 30 cards each: People, Artifacts, Landmarks, Nature, Wildlife and Space. Newer cards are tiered by 90-day reading volume within their theme, and a card’s rarity never changes after release. This is how the current edition is distributed:

RarityCardsChance per standard slotHighest-ATK examples
Legendary80.1%Cleopatra, Albert Einstein, Earth
Ultra Rare150.9%William Shakespeare, Black hole, Alan Turing
Super Rare275%Jane Austen, Vincent van Gogh, Frida Kahlo
Rare4116%Nikola Tesla, The Sun, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Uncommon4128%The Moon, Socrates, Stonehenge
Common4850%Charles Darwin, Monarch Butterfly, Ibn Sina

Rarity is a collecting tier, not a power ranking, and it adds no damage multiplier. Charles Darwin is a Common card with ATK 1,390 and DEF 790, ahead of the Ultra Rare Antikythera mechanism at ATK 1,380 and DEF 650. Pity adds hard guarantees on top of the odds: you never open more than 9 packs in a row without an Ultra Rare or Legendary card, or more than 59 without a Legendary, and one counter covers free, coin and paid packs. The rules and odds page lists the featured-slot chances and every formula.

Strategy tips for the Wikipedia card game

Winning in this Wikipedia card game comes down to three choices per round and a little homework between battles.

Build a formation

Two different cards from one theme give the whole deck +3% attack and defense; three give +6% attack, defense and health. Listed stories go further: Saturn, Titan and Enceladus together complete Saturn and its moons for +10% to all three stats. Only the strongest formation counts, so compare options in the formation directory before you save a deck.

Respect the stance triangle

Each round you pick an unused card and a stance. Attack beats Feint, Feint beats Guard and Guard beats Attack. Every theme also favours one stance for +10% damage: People and Artifacts favour Feint; Landmarks and Nature favour Guard; Wildlife and Space favour Attack. The bonus is real, but a rival who knows it can predict you, so mix it up.

Read the articles

Each round asks both players the same knowledge strike: which of two articles drew more readers in the last 90 days, cites more sources or is longer. A correct answer adds 20% damage to that move, and a wrong one costs nothing. The numbers behind those questions are printed in every card’s data panel, so time spent browsing your collection pays off in the arena.

Trade, bid and register rare copies

You can offer a card exchange to another collector; the offered card is held until the trade is accepted, declined, cancelled or expires after seven days. Auctions use earned coins only, outbid players get their coins back at once, and a 5% fee comes out of the seller’s proceeds. Trading and listing unlock 24 hours after your first visit.

The Atlas Registry gives special copies an identity: every new Rare-or-better or mutated copy is minted with a per-card serial number and a public ownership history, and serials #1 to #100 carry the First Edition mark. Each card from a pack, fusion or craft also rolls for a mutation: Prism 2%, Inverted 0.7%, Gilded 0.25% and Misprint 0.05%, or 3% in total. Mutations and the Silver, Gold and Holo finishes are cosmetic and never change a card’s stats.

Wikipedia card game, quiz or wiki race?

Wikipedia already inspires a few kinds of browser games. Here is where Wiki Battle fits:

FormatHow you playWhat carries over
Wiki raceFollow links from a starting article until you reach a target page.Usually nothing between rounds.
Trivia quizAnswer questions about facts or articles.A score.
Wiki BattleCollect real article cards, build three-card decks and duel with their measured stats, answering a knowledge question each round.Your collection, coins, arena rating and season progress.

If you know WikiMasters, which also turns Wikipedia articles into cards, our independent WikiMasters comparison covers the differences in combat, statistics and social play. The two games are separate, and accounts do not transfer between them.

Free to play, in three languages

Everything in the Wikipedia card game runs on free packs and earned coins, and coins are never sold or cashed out. The pack shop also offers optional one-time bundles from US$9.90 and the premium track of the Atlas Pass, and paid packs use exactly the same odds and pity counter as free ones. Atlas Season 1 runs from October 9 to November 20, 2026 across 30 tiers, and its free track alone gives every player 6 packs and 600 coins.

The interface is available in English, French and Simplified Chinese and works in phone and desktop browsers. Guests keep their cards through a browser cookie; signing in with email or Google saves the collection to an account you can open on any device. Wikipedia card game FAQ

Is Wiki Battle an official Wikipedia game?

No. Wiki Battle is an independent game built on public English Wikipedia data and openly licensed images. It is not affiliated with Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Foundation.

Do I need to know a lot about Wikipedia to play?

No. Every stat is printed on the card and the knowledge strike in battle is optional. Curious players still gain an edge, because the questions compare the same reader, citation and length numbers shown in each card’s data panel.

Why can a famous card lose to a lesser-known one?

Stats are capped, rarity adds no damage and the stance triangle can swing any round: the winning stance deals 90% damage while the losing one deals 40%. A Common card with the right stance and a correct answer can out-hit a Legendary.

Can I play the Wikipedia card game with a friend?

Yes. Create a private room in Battle and share its six-character code. Each player brings three cards from their own collection, and every round gives both of you 60 seconds to commit a move.

Rooms, timers and rewards are covered step by step in the guide to playing with friends.
